Wellington residents are reminded to NEVER put fat, oil or grease from cooking down their drains.
This message is especially important during the holiday season, when more big meals are prepared, resulting in more fat, oil and grease. Pouring those substances down the drain can result in costly clogs as well as damage to Wellington's sewer system and new Water Reclamation Facility.
For Thanksgiving, the Town will provide a collection station for residents to drop off any fat, oil or grease for disposal. The station will open Wednesday, Nov. 27 and close Monday, Dec. 2. The station will be located near the recycling dumpster at the Town of Wellington Streets & Maintenance shop located at 4021 Sixth St. in Wellington.
Residents who only have a small amount of fat, oil or grease to dispose of should collect it in a metal can (soup cans work great). Once it has cooled and/or solidified, place it in the trash for disposal — a method that is effective year round for getting rid of fat, oil and grease.
We thank residents for their cooperation in helping to protect the health of our sewer system and new water treatment facilities.
