Larimer County Sheriff's Department Mission Statement
One Agency, One Mission: Public Safety
Our Mission is to protect and preserve life, liberty and property by providing superior public safety services in Larimer County.
374 employees work for the Sheriff's Office serving the citizens of Larimer County. An annual budget of just under forty million dollars is used to operate the agency in order to fulfill the statutory duties of the Sheriff. The statutory duties of the Sheriff are:

- Search and Rescue
- Hazardous Materials
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is divided into five divisions:
- Executive Services Division

In addition to the dedicated people who work at the Sheriff's Office, hundreds of committed volunteers assist us in our duties every day in order that we may better serve the citizens of Larimer County.

The Town of Wellington’s contract with LCSO provides a sergeant, a corporal and 8 deputies, who make up LCSO’s Wellington Squad and provide patrol services for the town.
Members of the Wellington Squad focus on establishing a community oriented police presence within the town. Deputies are responsible for traffic enforcement, criminal law enforcement, and providing limited animal control duties when the Town's Neighborhood Services Officer is unavailable. They enforce Wellington's Municipal Ordinances in addition to applicable county, state and federal laws.

Deputies in the Wellington Squad conduct their patrol duties using marked patrol cars, bicycles and foot patrols.
Desk services
A desk deputy is assigned at the Wellington substation (3735 Cleveland Ave.) to provide walk-in services from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
VIN inspections are conducted by the desk deputy at the substation during these hours. Appointments are required for VIN inspections and can be made by calling 970-498-5311.
A VIN inspection through LCSO costs $20.
School Resource Officer
One deputy from the Wellington Squad is assigned as the School Resource Officer for Poudre School District’s Wellington schools.
The School Resource Officer instructs safety programs at the public schools located in Wellington, investigates criminal activity on school grounds and attends school activities.

When deputies assigned to the Wellington Squad are not on duty or need additional deputies to respond to calls for service, deputies respond from other districts in the county.
Similarly, additional services are provided to the Town from all other divisions of the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies assigned to the Wellington Squad have a substation at 3735 Cleveland Ave. in Wellington, where they are able to complete many of their administrative tasks without driving to the Sheriff's Office Administration Building in Fort Collins.

The Town of Wellington and the areas nearby are protected by the Wellington Fire Protection District. The Wellington Fire Protection District is responsible for providing fire suppression, rescue, extrication, hazardous materials, emergency medical, public education, and risk reduction services to a 288-square mile area in northern Colorado.
Wellington Fire Protection District is a statutory special district governed by an elected five-member Board of Directors. The elected, five-member Board of Directors provides direction to the Fire Chief. Although a separate governmental entity, the District works closely with the Town of Wellington and Larimer County.

It is impossible to be too prepared or too informed during a disaster. That's why agencies in Larimer County will use multiple ways to reach out to residents if there is a threat to life or safety.
The best way for residents to ensure they receive alerts is NOCOAlert, the service provided by LETA911, which is the local emergency alerting authority for Larimer County.
NOCOAlert will be the first alert residents if there is an imminent threat to their lives or safety. However, this service is opt-in meaning if residents do not register, they will not receive alerts.
Residents can sign up for NOCOAlert the following ways:
- Sign up online: Go to our website and create an account. You choose the location. You choose the device.
- Text NOCO alert to 888777: Receive all emergency alerts sent in Larimer County via text only. Text and data rates apply.
- Smart Phone App: Download the Everbridge app from the Apple App Store or Google Play to receive push notifications when you enter an alert zone.
